Costa Mesa ...

Man, California is such an amazing place! We've enjoyed a couple of days hanging as a family at Disneyland (from which I need a couple of days to recuperate!) I'll get to some pics soon! Right now we're in Costa Mesa for the next couple of days checking out Saddleback Church and asking some questions of a large established church as to how they are handling the emerging culture in their community.

If you wanna check out their web site just click below:

Peace.

I look forward to hearing what you learn from Saddleback. They (and Warren, in particular) have often taken a "beating" in emergent conversations. While I oft agree with the critiques, I do not share the tone or the absolutism in the dismissive reaction. Much to learn from all. Let us know what you glean.

Peace,

Hey Jamie,

Thanks for your encouraging comments on my blog!

I enjoyed my first visit to Saddleback (although I have learned much on CD and video as these guys are so open to share what they are learning) I could see how people could get on Saddleback if they wanted to. Yet here I found another expression of "the body" of Christ in a style that totally suits the community they are located in. I could see how they have asked great questions about what the "rhythms" are for their community and how they can live missionally as the body here.

Sure it looks different than the style of my church or others I've visited but I found it to be authentic for this culture. I also found we were warmly welcomed at every turn and that spoke volumes about authenticity and their all out passion for God and desire to share it with others.

I'm back there for some meetings with people tomorrow and I will ask more questions!

Peace to you as well!

Dean
