Day 1 - June 4
Well, we're on our way! Trav and I planned to leave this morning at 6am and after an emotional goodbye to Les, Leah and Grace we left at 7, only to return 10 minutes later to pick up a bag I had left behind. Ever do that? What do you do with the second goodbye? The first one pulled out all the stops - the second was more of a denument, really - good but it had a kind of "been there done that" vibe.
Saw a lot of farm land, peppered by the maniacal Chicago freeway system for about an hour - then it was on to Wisconsin. The mp3 player had a little Bruce Hornsby, a touch of Van Halen, one Hillary Duff (in honour of Leah) and a lot of U2. Nothing profound to report - other than that in Portage, Wisconsin - June is apparently "Dairy Month."
But isn't every month Dairy Month in Wisconsin!!??
So after 13 hours and 1200 km we're bunking down for the night ... in Sparta, WI! So far no signs of chariots or colesiums, so I think we're gonna be fine!
The adventure continues ...
