Day 3 - June 6
We made it all the way to Butte, Montana today! Yep - 1000km again! Trav's the man when it comes to saying "Wow - that mountain looks cool!" Which I have grown to realize means "that mountain looks the same as the other one, but I'll humor you Dad"
We did visit the Devil's Tower in Wyoming today and it was pretty awe inspiring. No sign of the Devil - but there was a WalMart nearby. Teddy Roosevelt proclaimed the Devil's Tower to be the first National Monument, and it is pretty amazing, rising out of the plain like that. An Indian legend has it that a great bear made the strations in the rock while chasing some Indian maidens.
I wonder what makes something a national momument - considering that no one made this? I guess when you are President you can make anything a "national whatever you want" - so this rock and granite gets the vip treatment. I guess it's kinda the same way that Sun Chips and Dr Pepper are the official snack food of our cross country adventure, except that we don't get to sell postcards and nick nacks about them.
Anyhow - the weather was socked in most of the day so we could only see the base of some of the mountain ranges we drove thru and Butte is maybe short for Buuteful but we'll have to wait till tomorrow to see for sure. We looked all over Montana for a "Montana's" to eat at but we couldn't find one, oddly enough!
The mp3's today featured John Williams, Andy Stanley and some Shrek action and the T-man played San Diego vs who cares on PS2.
Tomorrow it's on to the border of Idaho and then into Washington State, nearing Seattle and Tacoma.
Manana!
